18 Tons of Indonesian Coffee Exported to UK

PT Perkebunan Nusantara XII carried out the first export of 18 tons of Arabica coffee worth Rp. 1.5 billion to the UK, which is this year's harvest.

"We sent 18 tons of Arabica coffee to meet buyer requests with port destinations to teesports in the United Kingdom," said Director of PT Perkebunan Nusantara XII, Siwi Peni in Surabaya, Tuesday (7/9/2021).

Coffee is one of the main crops of PTPN XII with a total area of 8,985.89 hectares (ha) consisting of arabica coffee covering an area of 4,478.50 ha and robusta coffee 4,507.39 ha, and the harvesting process is carried out from July 2021 to September 2021.

Siwi explained that the first exported Arabica coffee was harvested from the Blawan Plantation in Bondowoso Regency, East Java, whose management is supported by cultivation techniques.

"The Arabica coffee that we produce has been known in the world market as Specialty Arabica Coffee and is registered in the US under the name Java Coffee, and over the years has had fanatical buyers in a number of countries," said Siwi.

Meanwhile, Senior Executive Vice President (SEVP) Business Support for PTPN XII, Tri Septiono, said that after the initial export of coffee, PTPN XII would still send the commodity to business partners in the UK, Germany, Japan and the US.

The coffee export target until the end of December is 660 tons for the type of Arabica and 1,199 tons of robusta coffee.

Coffee is cultivated and managed in 12 plantations belonging to PTPN XII spread across several districts in East Java.

Arabica coffee is cultivated in the Kalisat Jampit, Pancur Angkrek, Blawan, and Kayumas Gardens. Robusta coffee is cultivated in Kaliselogiri Gardens, Malangsari, Mount Gumitir, Silosanen, Renteng, Zeelandia, Bangelan, and Ngrangkah Pawon.

Meanwhile, PTPN XII manages the commodities of arabica coffee, robusta coffee, rubber, cocoa, tea and timber which are cultivated in 34 gardens. (*)
