"Today we will export agricultural commodities simultaneously from 17 export gates through airports and seaports in various regions in Indonesia and mark the revival of the national economy in the midst of a pandemic," President Jokowi said in his remarks.

President Joko Widodo in his speech also said that the agricultural sector is one sector that is able to withstand the blows of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This is evident from the continued increase in the value of agricultural exports in the last two years. In 2020, exports reached IDR 451.8 trillion, up 15.79 percent compared to 2019 which reached IDR 390.16 trillion. And, in the first semester of 2021, from January-July 2021, exports reached IDR 282.86 trillion, up 14.05 percent compared to the same period in 2020, which was IDR 202.05 trillion.

According to President Jokowi, the increase in exports of agricultural commodities will also have an impact on improving the welfare of farmers.

President Jokowi also asked that farmers be connected to supply chains both nationally and globally. Thus, farmers and agricultural business actors can easily export their products, so that they can develop into export-oriented agricultural production centers.

Previously, the Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo explained that the total value of exports in the activity entitled Merdeka Agricultural Exports 2021 reached Rp7.29 trillion, covering the first commodities of plantations 564.6 million tons, food crops 4.3 million tons, horticulture 7.2 million tons, livestock 4.0 million tons, and several other commodities.
